hooray for getting past immigration!
there's lots to do and no time for the internet, which is a bit liberating, but for all you folks at home, here's an update. :)
i made it! my flights were SO LONG. they were ok though, free movies and tv shows so you know what i was doing for those 12 hours. we flew over the lateral side of italy and over greece so i got a 35000ft aerial view of those cities. the water was so blue and the terrain was really cool. the i saw the alps and Rome .... from very far away .... i listened to Strawberry Swing in honor of Liz;) as i flew over it.
i tried to sleep but failed ... terribly. so basically im running off of nothing here because i arrived in the late afternoon here, but according to my body's utah-clock it was about 2 am .... and i went to bed about 11pm finally and got up at 5:45. well really i got up at 4am because i live in the middle east now and if you werent aware, muslims pray five times a day, and it starts at 4am. they have speakers on minarets that broadcast to the city the "call to prayer" in Arabic ..... in song. can you imagine? probably not .... but let me tell you ...... it's ....... fun. anyways. update ....
roommates are cool ...... ..... all from CA and UT ...
the chef here is a palastinian so all the food im eating is AMAZING and legit.
the center is the coolest building i've ever seen.
today, (our first full day here) we did a walking tour of Jerusalem. i live on the east side (the palastinian side) and the contrast from the west is striking. seriously .... because the west is newer ... since israel has been established from Jordan buildings were replaced because the other ones were blown up ... (although, the new buildings still have bullet holes.) the old city was UNBELIEVABLE . i wish i could tell you more but im running out of time. we walked about 5 miles around and 5 miles back, i have a feeling i will feel that soon because Jerusalem is on a mountain .. and where i live, mount Scopus ... or the mount of Olives .... is on the top. kidron valley is where the city is .... anyways .... i love everything about jerusalem right now and am really excited that im living here!!!! im typing like the wind! hope the States are good. write again soon.
a. YES YES YES!!! that's sweet you got to see italy and greece, even if it was a birds' eye view :]
ReplyDeleteb. that's funny they call everyone to prayer...not unlike how at byu the bells at the bell tower ring before and after devotional, haaa.
and c. a palestinean chef... that is awesome. and delicious.
More description, pookie!! That is so cool though and I have a feeling that much like trains passing in the night you will eventually tell your reticular formation that prayer at 4am is better experienced in deep sleep.
ReplyDeleteps-I found that it wasn't so heartbreaking to let you go because I'd much rather see you in Jerusalem than in the heat of SC, picking top-secret peppers for the government.
the best part of not being in SC right now is that ONE, im here and TWO the weather is so so so nice here. it's normally blazing but its been overcast and breezy and a high of 67! its slightly more humid than UT because we live so close to the mediterranean.....in other words...its perfect. :)
